Bimatoprost is an FDA approved eyelash serum that makes your eyelashes longer, thicker and darker. It is a topical solution applied to the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes once a day in the evening. It is a very safe drug when used as directed. There are some possible side effects, which include red eyes, dry eyes, itching of the eyes or the eyelids, darkening of the iris pigmentation and the lashes becoming too long. These side effects go away when you stop using the drug.
Lumigan is a brand name for the generic drug bimatoprost ophthalmic solution. It was first used as a glaucoma treatment but it was found that the drug also enhanced eyelash growth and appearance over time. This is why it is now licensed as a cosmetic medicine in the USA and UK (under the names of Lumigan and Latisse respectively). Doctors are allowed to prescribe drugs ‘off label’ when they believe it will benefit the patient.
Lumigan works by changing the hair cycle so that your lashes grow longer and stay that way. It does not make them grow faster or work more quickly and putting it on more often won’t increase the results.
There are some medicines that do not mix well with bimatoprost, which is why it’s important to tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications or supplements. These may include herbal medicines and some vitamins and minerals. bimatoprost eyelash serum
